Day 17: Sprucewood Shores 2013 Riesling

Sprucewood Shores 2013 Riesling

Sprucewood Shores 2013 Riesling

When we finally made it to Lake Erie North Shore last September, Sprucewood Shores was one of the wineries that we had wanted to visit but never made it to. Luckily their Riesling showed up in the LCBO late last year and I was able to pick up a couple of bottles (it is reasonably priced at $13.95).

2013 Sprucewood Shores Riesling: Nose of ripe peach, with hints of tropical fruit like pineapple and mango. As it warmed, tertiary notes of beeswax emerged. On the palate, slightly underripe peach, green apple, and lemon greet you and take you into a lemon pithy dry finish. Although there is a fair bit of residual sugar, the acidity keeps it fresh and more towards the drier side. We paired it quite successfully with one of our favourite recipes from the Looneyspoon’s ladies (Greta and Janet) – the Rockin Moroccan stew.

There’s still lots left in the LCBO, and summer is nowhere near finished!

LCBO#: 326249, $13.95
